The ears are organs that provide two main functions; hearing and balance. Our ears are important to us in our everyday life. As believers, we hear the voice of the Lord through the Holy Spirit as our hearts are contact point to God. We must be careful what we hear, as the scripture says in:
Mark 4:24- take heed to what you hear.
Jesus Christ says these words because he knows the spiritual implications of listening to the wrong thing. Looking at the ears physically, it gives us balance so that we can move about and do our daily activities. If one should look deeper, one could see that the ears also play a significant role in our spiritual life, as what we hear and accept or reject will determine how we stand in the realm of the spirit. What you hear and accept can cause you to be balanced or unbalanced, spiritually speaking.
When you start listening to the wrong thing, it will affect your spiritual life which will open doors for evil to enter. Your spiritual resources will decrease which will result in spiritual bankruptcy. This can cause individuals to become spiritually dead.
This is why as children we were taught the song that says, “be careful little ears what they hear.”
1 Corinthians 15:33- Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
If you listen to ungodly things, then it will corrupt you and bring negative results. Remember, whatsoever a man plant that he shall also reap. Our father loves us and, His plans for us are good and not evil. It’s important that whatsoever thing is pure and holy, that we meditate on them. A man is whatever he feeds himself with daily. We must be careful what we listen to and what we accept.
Job12:11: Does not the ear test words as the tongue tastes food?
We know that we taste food with our tongue and, if an individual is eating a fish, they will swallow the meat and spit out the bone. If the bone is swallowed, then one could even die. The ears are like the tongue we must be careful of what we hear and also the things that we accept when we hear them. We should not digest the ungodly things in our soul because they will cause spiritual contaminations which will affect our spiritual life. Now, remember that our spiritual life is the engine that fuels our entire life.
By hearing the right thing and listening to the right thing, it increases our spiritual resources. It’s a fact that the ability to hear God’s voice is a basic requirement for children of God.
John 10:27: My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
If anyone hears the voice of God and hardens not their heart, it’s a fact that the Lord will reveal himself to such a one that will make themselves available. As individuals, we determine the measure in which God gives himself to us. The more we dedicate ourselves to the things of the Lord, it’s the more he will impart to us.
Romans 10:17: Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
Faith does come by hearing. Unbelief and doubt among others also come by hearing. It’s important that we press the delete button to avoid messages that will produce an error. Avoid evil desires and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and a pure heart. Don’t agree with things that displeases God because light and darkness do not mix. Let anyone that does have an ear let him hear.
Isaiah 55:3- Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live.
Matthew 11:15- Whoever has ears, let them hear.
