Love is a wonderful emotion that comes from the heart. It is a verb which means it is active. The best way to describe love is from the scripture. 2 Timothy 3:16 says, all scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. Therefore, 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 is indeed perfect for describing love. It says, Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
My friend, love is kind, and kindness can be expressed physically, spiritually and emotionally. kindness and patience are two of the fruit of the spirit. A world without kindness would be gloomy. Kindness at times is expressed by being sympathetic to others who might be undergoing difficult circumstances. Words are indeed powerful; some words can break you and some can mend you. Kindness is helping without expectation or obligation. Spiritually speaking, kindness is expressed when we sharpen each other with encouraging words; it heals the soul that is wounded and feeds the soul that may be empty. Kindness must be expressed physically as many people are first reached by acts of kindness that eventually penetrates the soul.
James 2:16- If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?
My beloved, we must first do good to that which we see before we can touch that which we cannot see with our physical eyes. It’s vital that we show kindness in whatever way we can whether it be in deeds or words or a smile. I encourage you to do what you can where you are.
Love does not have a bone of envy nor an ounce of boast. Love doesn’t have a mustard seed size of pride. Love is honourable; it brings peace and joy. Love is respectful, love is not selfish, and love is peaceful. The scripture says that if anyone has the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if an individual has faith that can move mountains, but doesn’t have love, then they have nothing. Beloved, the scripture says that love covers a multitude of things. Love is John 3:16 where God sent his only son Jesus to die for us. When Jesus died, he died for us all.
As Christians, we must exercise love in our daily journey. We must be each other keepers. We must sharpen each other faith. We must show kindness to those that are in need. Love is thoughtful, helpful and considerate. My beloved, love has eyes that see and ears that listen; love is a great listener. Love has hands that give and at the same time, receive. Love has feet that walk for miles to seek out those that are in need. Love is not dumb; it speaks a language that all nations and tongues understand. Love is pure, and love is true.
May God bless you in Jesus Christ mighty name.
